Drink Review: Crane Lake, Cabernet Sauvignon

If you’re tired of Sutter Home, Carlo Rossi, and Yellow Tail: Crane Lake will have you feeling sophisticated because you stepped away from the norm.

Crane Lake, the very name, gives you the imagery of a soothing, swan populated lake on a Spring day:  A sudden glimpse of the majestic bird through the trees on the river bank, the sudden heat of the Summer to come, and the allure of what the day (or night) ahead has in store for you.

This Cabernet Sauvignon will give you the love affair without the impending doom of heartbreak.  Certainly, the bottom of the bottle has its own despair and enlightenment.  However, the wine gives you a glimpse into the happiness that is the serendipity of life.  The win gives you a warmth and joy that only a great, cheap wine can possess.

No story, no word can describe how great a great, cheap wine is for an of-age, collegiate wine drinker.  This wine will bring you fulfillment and satisfaction for reasons of taste and for reasons of frugality.

Food Review: KBG, New Brunswick, NJ, USA

Snapchat-20140129082321KBG is located on Easton Avenue at a hole-in-the-wall spot in New Brunswick, NJ.  It’s a place that packs a powerful punch of flavors in the form of a Bowl, Burrito, or Tacos.  For a price of $7.00, you can treat yourself to a cuisine from half-way across the globe while only being a block from your home.

When I go to KBG (which is often), I order the three-taco option with Spicy Pork and Kimchi Rice.  Of course.

I skip the Veggie Bed (Red Cabbage or Romaine Lettuce) because I know it’ll only take the room away from what I really want: the sauces… but we will get to that in a minute.

I then take a step down the assembly line and order the following: Kimchi Cucumber, Daikon Carrots, Corn, Tomato, Cheese.

Then I throw on the Chipotle and Hot Sauce.  This combination will make my mouth water and my eyes cry, but my tacos are not complete without it.

My tacos are also incomplete unless I get a dollop of Sour Cream on each.  Sour Cream soothes my burning mouth and wipes my tears for me.

I then stuff my face at the nearest booth in the restaurant or I gorge in the comforting solitude that my apartment provides for such a feast.

The ingredients are fresh and easily accessed through excellent service.  I cannot recommend this place enough.

I’ll probably be eating there again tonight.

As I wait for the AHS Coven Season Finale, I am re-blogging the most bewitching recipe I have ever accomplished: The KFC Bowl (With Bacon).


The majority of your ingredients!  *Corn not pictured


Boil water for the potatoes!


Pan-fry your bacon!

Chop your potatoes!!!  Keep the skin on!

Boil your potatoes!

Smash your chicken!  (With whatever you have handy…)


After the pounding, chop your chicken into bite-sized pieces.  Then put chicken pieces in a bowl with hot sauce and milk!


Smash your croutons and add this stuff into the breading!

Make an assembly line!


Flour the chicken!


Bread the chicken!


Fry the chicken!


Keep an eye on the boiling potatoes!


Make garlic butter (melted butter with garlic powder)!


Look at it!


Make your gravy!


Put all of this and the garlic butter together in the strained potatoes!


Chop that bacon!


Add the bacon into the potatoes!


Cook your corn!


Make your side of biscuits!

How to: Texas Toast Crouton Mini Meatball Mini Subs!


This is a step-by-step photo and video guide to this super moist mini meatball mini sub.

No nonsense, just watch and learn.

What you will physically need:

  1. Two frying pans.
  2. Stove.
  3. Sharp knife.
  4. Cutting board.
  5. Plate.
  6. Maybe a fork.
  7. Plastic Ziploc bag.
  8. Large bowl.
  9. Spatula.

What you will need to cook everything:

  1. Texas Toast Croutons.
  2. An onion.
  3. Ground meat.
  4. Three eggs.
  5. Worcestershire sauce.
  6. Pepper.
  7. Italian Seasoning.
  8. One medium sized sauce can.
  9. Hot dog buns.
  10. Shredded Mozzarella cheese.

Food Review: Tumulty’s Steak and Guinness Stew


Perfection. Just a single word that comes to mind in remembrance of Tumulty’s Steak and Guinness Stew.

To begin, the Guinness Stew was served piping hot which was perfect for a late evening dinner after a light flurry of snow.  Regardless of temperature outdoors or on my plate, I dove into the decadence that is this Stew.  The correct amount of steak complimented the root veggies tremendously.  Everything was so tender that all I needed was my spoon to aid in my devouring of this meal.

And that SAUCE.  That Gravy.  That Meaty Juice.  

Oh, my.

It was a gift simply to be able to smell the heavenly scents that radiated off my plate.  I had to sit back every now-and-again just to waft in all the goodness throughout my dining experience.  The aroma coming off this stew was extremely comforting and exquisitely humbling.

This was everything I could ever want in a stew.

Let’s not forget to mention the bread.

The bread alone was unforgettable.  Tumulty’s serves up the impeccable blend of garlic and butter upon lightly toasted bread.  Though the bread would have been the ideal tool for sopping up the savory sauce, I ate the majority of the toasty goodness before I saw the bottom of the dish.

Recipe: Spicy Popcorn

20140115_160146If you want a new popcorn experience,  look no further than your favorite hot sauce.

I found through extensive experimentation that popcorn can take on any genre if you really push it to become something new.  We can see this through various flavors of kettle corn.  We can see this through the delicious white cheddar popcorn.   We can even see this push to make the popcorn really pop into a new form with a nice bath of hot sauce.

Through this addition of spice, you will give your taste buds a spicy kick unlike ever before.  It’s a lazy innovation,  but it will do when you’re in a pinch for an exciting new take on your average Bowl of popcorn.

Recipe: Apple Strudel Muffins

20140108_172836I wanted to pick up a new hobby, so I have taken up baking.   Instead of picking up a muffin from Dunkin Donuts, I decided it would be easier to just make my own.  After a few searches,  I found something that sounded delicious: Apple Strudel Muffins.

I found the recipe from, but I changed it a bit for my preferences.

What You’ll Need:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt


1/2 cup butter, melted

1 cup white sugar

2 eggs

1 1/4 teaspoons vanilla

1 1/2 cups chopped apples (I used Granny Smith!)

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg


1/3 cup packed brown sugar

1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 tablespoon butter, softened

The Equipment:

1 Medium Bowl

1 Large Bowl

1 Small Bowl

Mixing Spoons

12-Cup Muffin/Cup Cake Tin

Cup Cake Wrappers

Toothpick / Fork

How To:

(Note: I doubled my recipe, so don’t be worried if your batch looks different from mine.)

Pre-heat your oven to 375 degrees.


For your prep work: Wash, peel, and chop your apples.

Then simply: Put the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt from the first section in a medium-sized bowl.

Put the (melted) butter, white sugar, eggs, vanilla and apples from the second section in the large bowl.


Put the brown sugar, flour, (softened) butter and cinnamon in a small bowl.  This will be the crumb topping of the muffins!  Put this aside until later.

Now, you’re going to slowly fold your medium sized bowl’s contents into the large bowl with the apples.  I emphasize slowly because the mixture will become more difficult to mix if you pour everything in at once.


After you have blended the ingredients, start putting your muffin wrappers in the tin.  You will then scoop the muffin mix into your muffin tins.  After you have done this task: sprinkle your crumble on top of your muffins.

Let your muffins bake for 15 minutes and then you can stick a toothpick or a fork in the center muffins to see if they are ready to come out.  If the muffins don’t leave a mark on your toothpick or fork, they are ready to come out!

After the muffins are finished baking, take them out and let them cool before you dig in!
